  Important Information Regarding Ph.D. Registration

1. The last date of dispatch of filled application form through speed post/registry is 28/03/2009. The application form may be downloaded from the website or from the centers but downloaded forms must be accompanied with an additional fee of Rs. 300/- as application form fee.

2. With the application, the applicants will have to submit three copies of the synopsis; minimum 1000 words duly forwarded by the proposed Supervisor and Co-Supervisor (if any) along with the processing fee. Candidate will have to go three times during course duration. 1st time while submitting synopsis. 2nd time
And third time for giving viva.

3. A candidate who has qualified for the award of Master’s Degree of any University or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto in any of the following fields will be eligible to register for the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program provided he/she has secured at least 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST candidates) or a grade equivalent thereto, at examinations leading to such a degree/ qualification.

Education, English, Sanskrit, Hindi, Ancient History, Medieval History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Botany, Physics, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotech; Biochemistry, Maths, Zoology, Physical Education, Physiotherapy, Computer Science, Commerce, Management, Journalism, Library Science, Statistics, and Philosophy.

However, if any person of any stream wants to do his/her research work in the field of distance education or open learning, he/she may be allowed to pursue research work with a supervisor of concerned stream by the Research Degree Committee.

4. The eligible persons have to appear in a written test conduct by the University. However, applicants qualified for JRF/NET of the UGC & of equivalent examination will be exempted to appear in the written test.

5. An academic (include teachers and other academic staff) with a Ph.D. degree and with at least five year post-doctoral research and / or teaching experience shall be eligible to be recognized as a research supervisor. The supervisor must be from U.P.

6. The fee schedule for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme is given below:
(i) Application Form Fee Rs. 300.00
(ii) Entrance Test Fee Rs. 500.00 With the application Form
(iii) Registration Fee Rs. 5000.00 Once, At the time of submission of first year’s Fee
(iv) Programme Fee Rs. 30000.00 Per annum
(v) Evaluation Fee Rs. 10000.00 At the time of Submission of thesis

7. The application for Ph.D. may not be considered if –
(i) Application is not on the prescribed application form.
(ii) Application is not complete or is without processing fee.
(iii) Applicant is not eligible for pursuing research work as per guidelines
(iv) Proposed Supervisor is neither recognized nor eligible for supervising Ph.D. students of this University.
(v) Application form is not duly forwarded by the Supervisor, if any and the head of the institution.
(vi) No seat is available under the concerned Supervisor / Co-Supervisor
(vii) Proposed topic is not suitable for research.

8. If application of a candidate is rejected by the DRC or/and by the RDC out rightly, the candidate will have to apply afresh along with required fee.

9. The admission test will be held on 18th March 2009 from 11.00 a.m., to 01.00 p.m., at PRIDES, Nagpur. Applicants have to bring with them the photocopy of the application form along with registry receipt. For the application forms issued from the Prides counters, the application form number will be the Test Roll Number . The candidates have to report at 09.30 a.m. at the test centre.

10. In the entrance test there will be one paper containing two sections. In the First section, candidates have to write a long analytical essay on a topic while in the Second Section the candidates have to prepare a brief synopsis on a research topic. The duration of test will be of two hours.

11. 4. Duration of the programme:
PG graduates in all disciplines except medicine : Minimum period of 3 years and Maximum of 5 years from provisional registration.

M.Phil degree holders : Minimum period of 2 years and Maximum of 5 years from provisional registration.
Medicine : Minimum of 2 years for M.D / M.S / P.G
Diploma and 3 years for candidates with M.Sc (Medical Subjects) and Maximum of
5 years from provisional registration.

A teacher to be recognized as a guide / co-guide for Ph.D research, shall have a Ph.D with three years of P.G teaching experience after Ph.D. and has at least two
research publications in accredited journals, initially and keep updating it.
The co-guide may possess a degree of a recognized university with minimum 10 years of teaching / research experience after P.G. and should have at least one
research publication in accredited Journal.
In medicine a guide for Ph.D degree shall have not less than fifteen years teaching and research experience after obtaining his postgraduate qualification and shall also have not less than ten years postgraduate teaching experience as a faculty member.
